)-- OktavaMod, the leading provider of affordable studio microphone upgrades, has announced a new modification for most large diaphragm condenser microphones made in China. Available for an introductory price of $79, the new modification "turns a toy into a tool" according to OktavaMod founder Michael Joly.
Joly developed his new modification to dramatically improve the performance of low cost Chinese microphones. The upgrade concentrates on two areas - headbasket improvement and signal path improvement. The new $79 mod (introductory price) converts the multi layer headbasket grille found in low cost mics to a single "AKG C12-style, single layer grille" to reduce standing waves within the headbasket and provide more open and transparent sound. Secondly, the new modification upgrades critical signal path components in the microphone's circuit to reduce distortion and harshness while lending a "sweetness" to the top end of these mics.
"Folks didn't pay much when they bought these mics. So I wanted to develop a mod that would provide the most bang-for-the-buck while being sensibly priced." Joly said.
