New Lightweight Rooftop Terrace Solution with LEED for Building Green

Outdoor living can reclaim rooftop sunspace with green building materials without rebuilding for loads while capturing rain runoff. New building green solutions for residential and commercial outdoor rooms constructed above grade.

New Lightweight Rooftop Terrace Solution with LEED for Building Green
Portland, OR, June 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- deXstone LLC, 5 year old company finds growing interest in alternative green building materials for outdoor rooms. What began with GratedeX®, a solution to place stone or tile on an elevated decking surface, has now expanded to the rooftop terrace with the introduction this year of PierdeX™.

With this has also come a re-branding of these products now known as the Outdoor Floor System™, a green building materials solution for outdoor living rooms. As a system, the manufacturer has included all of the components necessary for a successful installation; the underlayment, fasteners and adhesives. But It's the open design of the FRP underlayment that made the GratedeX® a suitable choice for new decks or reconstruction of existing decks. This feature reduces the systems weight without reducing its strength. No additional structural reinforcement is required to support the finished load. And with the open cells, water can drain through the GratedeX® underlayment to the surface below.

With these same design parameters, PierdeX™ was launched into another important green building materials space; a rooftop terrace or outdoor room that touches the sky. Current practices require the use of heavy concrete slabs supported on expensive pedestal systems. Although they are functional, they do by their nature create their own limitations, primarily weight and surface aesthetics.

As with the GratedeX® system, the Pierdex™ is the same lightweight FRP structure. This allows this Outdoor Floor System™ to be used in older retro-fit structures without overloading the bearing surfaces. And when it comes to seismic engineering issues, this system is a huge benefit. The reduced weight means a reduction in potential seismic motion translating to reduced structural support and potential cost savings.

But it's not just the engineers who are happy with this option. Architects who are building green or use LEED certifications, appreciate the PierdeX™ system for its creative flexibility. No longer are they locked into concrete type finishes and materials. Instead, they can select from a full pallet of stone or tile materials that fit the overall design scheme and/or LEED planning.

And of course the PierdeX™ comes with LEED building green value. The free draining feature of a outdoor rooms constructed with this system and installation design means rain water can be recaptured and reused. Additional building green values include (1) inert to moisture degradation, (2) non-wood product reducing fiber consumption and (3) reduced maintenance cost over time.

The Outdoor Floor System™ is developing new ways to use old materials for a more sustainable, durable and beautiful outdoor living experience. Customers can purchase product direct from the manufacturer shipped door-to-door.
