Balfour Beatty Construction’s Diverse Portfolio Brings Four Wins in Florida

Fort Lauderdale, FL, August 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Balfour Beatty Construction’s diverse portfolio recently brought the company four awards across Florida for projects that promote higher education, high school athletics, infrastructure replacement, and professional arts. These awards include construction management services for Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and Manatee County, design-build services with the School Board of Broward County, and preconstruction services for Dr. P. Phillips Orlando Performing Arts Center.

Due in part to Balfour Beatty Construction’s solid track record with building higher education facilities, FAU selected Balfour Beatty Construction as construction manager for the new, state-of-the-art research facility for its Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI) in Vero Beach, Florida. The contract marks Balfour Beatty Construction’s tenth project for the university during the past decade. Targeted for LEED Silver certification, the facility includes research laboratories, lab support rooms, environmental rooms, offices, and a conference area. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring of 2010.

After partnering with Balfour Beatty on ten previous projects, the School Board of Broward County awarded Balfour Beatty Construction a design-build contract for the Blanche Ely High School stadium in Pompano, FL. The new 5,000-seat stadium, when complete, will be the largest high school stadium in the county and the first to have a synthetic turf field. The project also will include construction of an eight-lane polyurethane track and new restroom and concession facilities.

For upcoming roadway and infrastructure projects, Manatee County, Florida awarded Balfour Beatty construction-manager-at-risk services. This award is Balfour Beatty’s fifth from Manatee County. Past projects include the Manatee County Judicial Center, the Manatee County Detention Facility, Manatee County Emergency Operations Center, and Lake Manatee Toe Drain.

The Orlando City Council approved the selection of Balfour Beatty Construction as the construction manager for the pre-construction phase of the Dr. P. Phillips Orlando Performing Arts Center. The contract will span through summer 2010 and includes cost estimating, value management, constructability analysis, site logistics planning, subcontractor bidding, evaluation processes, and community outreach. Balfour Beatty Construction is ranked first for the construction phase of what is being envisioned as Central Florida’s destination of choice for arts, cultural, and entertainment programming, with three main halls, educational facilities, and a public theater plaza.
