)-- “Airport Analytics has definitely given us the edge over competitors who don’t use it,” says Kevin Cullinane, Cork Airport Aviation Marketing Manager. When Kevin joined in 2006, he was drowning under a huge amount of data, his first task was to produce more meaningful information to win new business. Juggling several spreadsheets with multiple data sources was a thankless task until Kevin saw QlikView.
“We were very impressed with its functionality and its ability to manipulate vast amounts of data so quickly,” says Kevin. Aviation Analytics demonstrated QlikView to Kevin and his team, showing applications specifically tailored to the aviation market. Airport Analytics, powered by QlikView, gives Kevin a single interface to view and analyse his aviation and market data; from schedules, historic passenger traffic, and forecast fares, to daily, weekly and monthly actual passenger boarding information.
As Kevin recalls: “Before QlikView, analytical reviews of data were very time-consuming. With QlikView, it’s a simple case of sort, split and dissect within seconds. You can also easily change the ways you want to view the data, whereas in previous times, it would often mean complicated processes to re-set programs first.”
Used on a daily basis by three staff in the marketing team, Airport Analytics quickly proved worth its weight in gold, not least because of the solid understanding that the Aviation Analytics team had of the airport’s needs. Kevin explains: “They immersed themselves in our business so they could understand exactly how QlikView could best be used. They really got to grips not just with our needs, but with those of our customers too.”
Jon Soars, Aviation Analytics' Managing Director adds, “Our aviation data products are incredibly powerful because of the QlikView platform. And by taking a data agnostic approach – not tying ourselves to any particular data supplier – we can deliver much greater insight and value to our customers.”
“The fundamental question is this,” muses Kevin. “Would we have secured some of the business without QlikView? Probably not. Did it enhance our ability to attract new business? Yes!”
Cork Airport now have a cost-effective data analysis tool that allows the team to focus on new business, not manipulating spreadsheets. “Data is one thing, but information is something else - and QlikView knows the difference!” says Kevin.
