Yorktown University Offers Free Access to Lecture "The Relevance of the Critique of Government by the Physiocrats"
Leesburg, VA, June 20, 2012 --(PR.com)-- “The Relevance of the Critique of Government by the Physiocrats,” by economist Dr. William Luckey is offered in a series of nine free lectures by Yorktown University released today.

The Physiocrats, an 18th century French school of Economics that demonstrated that government tax policies have a detrimental effect on the economic well-being of society, is a forerunner of free market capitalism advocated today by classical and neo-classical schools of Economics.

The free lecture on the Physiocrats is delivered by William R. Luckey, who earned his doctorate in political philosophy from Fordham University and the M.A. in Economics from George Mason University. His unique background in political and economic theory is brought to his course in the History of Economic Thought at Yorktown University where Dr. Luckey is a member of the University’s Founding Faculty.

In this lecture, Dr. Luckey describes the Physiocratic argument that the only true wealth could be found in land ownership and the products produced by that land, and the assertion that society as a whole pays a high price when government taxation deprive farmers of the fruits of their agricultural endeavors.

The Physiocratic critique of government, Dr. Luckey explains, includes advocacy of deregulation and the economic principle that taxes should be levied only on surplus and not on peasants or their products, that there should be no private tax collectors, and that there were natural laws that govern society. The arguments of the Physiocrats on taxation and government regulation resonate with today’s Tea Party activists, Libertarians, and free market economists.

William R. Luckey is one of 37 members of Yorktown University’s founding faculty who come from disciplines in mathematics, history, philosophy, government, constitutional law, art history, architecture, religious studies, classics, biology, accounting, marketing and other disciplines that contribute to the curriculum in 12 degree and certificate programs.

Yorktown University is an accredited university that is focused on academic disciplines in politics, American history, constitutional law, economics and culture. The university’s free lecture series may be accessed online at http://www.yorktownuniversity.edu/10031.cfm
