Open Source Software Institute Names Industry Advisory Board Members
Washington, DC, March 26, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Open Source Software Institute (OSSI) has named several new members to its Industry Advisory Board. New Board members include: Bill Bacci of HP Federal; Dr. William Grossmann of Global Projects Design; AJ Jaghori , former CTO of L-3 Stratis; Jack Kurtz of sqrrl; and Robert Sterling, a career Wall Street attorney and investment banker.

OSSI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the adoption of open source software solutions within the US Federal Government agencies. The new Industry Advisory Board members will lead OSSI activities that address open source software security practices, mobility systems, Big Data, global outreach and capital investments in open source projects that support public and private-sector technology solutions.

“The primary role of our Advisory Board members is to help the organization maintain focus on open source technology issues that are important to Government and industry adopters,” said Carl Livesay, who was recently named Chief Operations Officer for OSSI. “Our Advisory Board members play a very hands-on role in helping to organize monthly technology-specific meetings which are held in the Washington, DC area. They are also responsible for helping to set the agenda and recruit top-level speakers for OSSI conferences that focus on technology challenges identified by designated Government agencies, such as our conference in January that focused on issues of Software Assurance as identified by the US Department of Homeland Security.”

OSSI hosted a similar conference in 2012 in conjunction with the National Security Agency. The next OSSI conference is scheduled for this fall. Details will be made available through the OSSI website (www.oss-institute.org).

OSSI Industry Advisory Board members are selected to represent subject matter areas where they have extensive experience and demonstrated professional expertise.

Sterling has spent more than 30 years as a Wall Street lawyer, law professor, investment banker, serial entrepreneur and investor in numerous technology companies. His role as an Industry Advisory Board member is to work with OSSI members to identify private investment opportunities for open source projects that are considered projects “of interest” within the Government and commercial marketplace.

“Our common interest in open source solutions has enabled OSSI to put together an all-star team of Government, commercial and community partners,” said John Farrell of HP/Fortify, OSSI's volunteer chairman and Chief Information Security Officer. “OSSI was founded in 2001 based on the idea that one day, the technological strength and efficiencies of the open source model would find its ideal fit within Government systems. I believe that time has come. It is truly exciting to be a part of the open source experience.”
