Boston Ex-Pat Mica Lee Williams Returns Home for CD Release; Hosts Shelter Benefit

Singer-songwriter Mica Lee Williams returns home to Boston to celebrate the release of her second album, The Romance of Ruins. She will use her CD release party as a fundraising event to collect school supplies, to be donated to Crossroads Family Shelter in East Boston. Backpacks and lunchboxes filled with donations will be delivered to the shelter following the release event.

Cambridge, MA, August 06, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Award-winning indie musician Mica Lee Williams performs with her band on August 8th at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, MA, kicking off the release of her second full-length album, The Romance of Ruins. The evening will also serve as a school-supply fundraiser for children in need, all proceeds going to Crossroads Family Shelter in East Boston.

Established in 1985, Crossroads Family Shelter has a mission to "support families as they transition from homelessness to independent living and self-sufficiency.” Last year, Crossroads served 85 families, including 125 children, offering shelter, affordable housing, meals, and counseling services. Williams invites fans to bring school-supply items for donation to the show, such as pencils, erasers, loose-leaf paper, single-subject notebooks and binders, folders, calculators, and colorful character and craft items for younger children. Donations will be packaged in backpacks and lunchboxes purchased via online fundraising efforts, and will be delivered personally by Williams and her mother to Crossroads on Monday, August 12th.

Williams, who deferred her second album while earning a B.A. in Rhetoric and English from the University of California, Berkeley, explains her CD release/fundraiser motivation: "I realized that bringing so many people together at one time presents an opportunity. Since education is something I value, school supplies were an easy choice. This benefit has so many positives: easing the burden of struggling parents, providing kids with some necessary tools for academic success, and the invaluable feeling that comes from helping others. It's an absolute win."

In addition to being named a Top 50 Indie Artist by Singer and Musician Magazine for her debut album, Lucid Dreaming High, Williams has earned numerous songwriting accolades. She is a winner of the New York International Music Festival Competition, held live at Madison Sq. Garden, and of VH1's Song of the Year Songwriting Competition. One of her songs is featured in the syndicated CBS TV series, Ghost Whisperer. Williams' second album, The Romance of Ruins, features musical collaboration from across the country, with many of the tracks recorded remotely--a process she describes as "family style."
