Smart Retailers Cut Through the Holiday Ad Clutter Using Location Based SMS via Geofencing

Mobile Campaigns Get Help from Location Based Services to Add More Relevance to Consumer Messages This Holiday Season.

St. Louis, MO, November 28, 2013 --(PR.com)-- With nearly every restaurant and retailer promoting their holiday and Black Friday sales this week, several smart retailers are taking a new and improved approach by launching location-based mobile marketing campaigns.

The mobile campaigns use new location-based technology called geofencing supplied by Thumbvista, a leading mobile marketing company. Customers opt-in to receive special deals and alerts based on their location and proximity to the retailer or restaurant.

By sending a text message coupon to customers when they’re near a participating location, these campaigns aim to increase sales and foot traffic to stores over the busiest shopping weekend of the year.

“Retailers and restaurants are bombarding consumers with holiday sales messages right now,” said Linden R. Skeens, founder of Thumbvista. “We are able to cut through the clutter by sending a mobile message that’s relevant to their customers when they’re near a participating location.”

As the holiday shopping season kicks off this weekend, Stony Brook Village Center in New York expects to attract a higher volume of shoppers from their location-based campaign.

“We hope that by offering this type of tailored service, our customers will enjoy the convenience and exclusivity we’re offering,” said Marie Gilberti, Communications Manager at Stony Brook Village Center New York.

Argo Tea is also piloting a Black Friday mobile promotion at select New York and Chicago locations.

“We know that it’s becoming increasingly difficult for brands to stand out during the busy shopping season,” said Jill Lawrence, Director of Café Marketing for Argo Tea. “By sending tailored messages to our customers when they’re near our locations, we’re further demonstrating our commitment to our customers by only reaching out to them at the most convenient time and in the most convenient way – right on their mobile device.”

Even Small Businesses are getting in on the new marketing strategy. Pennies In Your Pocket, a resale shop and estate sale company in St. Louis Missouri has been testing the mobile services as well.

“The customers who receive the location based message can’t wait to come and tell us about it,” said Regina Randall, owner of Pennies In Your Pocket. “The excitement that it brings is a real plus.”
