Austin, TX, June 16, 2015 --(PR.com
)-- Westlake Dermatology, a leading provider of dermatologic and aesthetic procedures, announced today that it is the first and only practice in Austin to offer newly FDA-approved Kybella – a non-invasive procedure that eliminates submental fullness.
Kybella is the only non-surgical treatment approved by the FDA for treating submental fullness. According to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, submental fullness under the chin (i.e. double chin or “turkey neck”) is a common issue effecting nearly 68% of adults in the U.S. and unfortunately, double chins are often extremely resistant to diet and exercise. Submental fullness often disrupts facial symmetry and results in an unwanted older and heavier look. Kybella removes excess fat under the chin, leaving a firm jawline without the recovery time of treatments like liposuction or neck lift surgery.
Kybella is a synthetic formulation of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule that breaks down and absorbs subcutaneous fat. When injected into fat pockets, it causes the rapid destruction and absorption of fat cells while also preventing future fat accumulation. Kybella only targets fat cells; all other cells and tissue remain unaffected. Because each person is unique, a custom treatment plan is tailored for each individual patient. Once the aesthetic response is achieved no further treatments will be required unless submental fullness redevelops.
“Kybella is the first of its kind,” said Dr. Gregory Nikolaidis, president of Westlake Dermatology. “It’s one of the most significant developments in cosmetic procedures in more than a decade. We finally have a non-surgical way to address a problem that affects so many people.”
Dr. Nikolaidis and Dr. Daniel Friedmann were among the first in the nation selected to offer and train other physicians on the use of Kybella.
