)-- ATCONTACT COMMUNICATIONS, LLC, a pioneer in delivering innovative satellite broadband solutions to customers around the globe, has signed a Cooperation Agreement with ViaSat, Inc. to collaborate in the development and launch of a 100 Gbps satellite. This project will provide consumer broadband access services in the United States and portions of Canada.
ATCONTACT’s extensive experience, expertise and knowledge in the development and delivery of satellite broadband services attracted ViaSat to seek ATCONTACT’s collaboration for their new satellite project. Working together ViaSat and ATCONTACT expect to discover and develop technology, methods and processes that will significantly enhance the consumer satellite broadband experience at affordable prices.
David Drucker, Chairman of ATCONTACT COMMUNICATIONS, LLC, also co-founder of EchoStar and founder of WildBlue Communications said, “Our agreement is a great way to collaborate with ViaSat and expand satellite broadband services in the U.S. and Canada. Other companies collaborating with ViaSat include Space Systems/Loral, Telesat and Eutelsat.
ATCONTACT was granted authority from the FCC for a global satellite system consisting of three non-geostationary satellite orbit (NGSO) satellites and four geostationary satellite orbit (GSO) satellites to provide fixed-satellite service (FSS) in the Ka-band, in May 2006. They have also contracted with Loral to build their satellites. ATCONTACT currently provides comprehensive broadcast, streaming and data services using fiber, microwave and satellite technologies from its secure satellite Earth station in Colorado.
