Zielinski earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana in 1981. The following year, he began his career in public service with the IRS. He remained with the agency until 1985, when he accepted a position with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In 1986, Zielinski returned to the IRS, where he continues his career today.
