Bride-to-be Steals the Show at a Billy Joel Tribute, Crowd Goes Wild
What started out as a celebratory night on the town turned into a viral moment at 118 North, when Philly Joel, Philadelphia's Billy Joel tribute band, invited a newly-engaged bride-to-be on stage to sing in front of a packed house.

But on Saturday, September 12, the words "I'm getting married!" rang out from the audience.
It was a packed house there to see Philly Joel, the Billy Joel tribute. During a pretty piano intro (Miami 2017), a group of friends screamed. Suddenly, random names of songs were being yelled out. A loud commotion. Several from the audience were requesting something from the guitar player, who politely explained, "This is a Billy Joel tribute band." The front man, Dave Papa Giorgio, simply looked up from his piano and asked, "What song do they want to hear?"
It was an eruption of sound. "Mama Mia." The Abba song. This was not on the band's Billy Joel-exclusive playlist. The band wasn't rehearsed or ready to go off course. But Giorgio loved the energy, and went with it. He didn't know that song, but he did know Abba's Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight), ironically from playing weddings, which elicited surprised cheers from the audience, now singing along.
Somehow, despite large vocal monitors blocking her path, the bride-to-be made her way onto the stage. Once on the mic, she sang with the band, and a happy bedlam ensued.
By the time Philly Joel returned to its all-Billy-Joel show, the crowd had had its fill and appreciated the Billy Joel set by singing along, hands in the air.
"That was old school. No one expected to hear Abba during a Billy Joel tribute. But the crowd loved it,” remarked one of the staff.
