Virtual Directories Can Now be Created by Your Application as Well as Virtual Disks

Callback File System Version 3.0 Allows Creation of Virtual Folders in Addition to Virtual Disks and Other New Enhancements.

Virtual Directories Can Now be Created by Your Application as Well as Virtual Disks
London, United Kingdom, March 31, 2010 --(PR.com)-- EldoS Corporation announces today the release of new enhanced version of Callback File System software component. Version 3 makes possible embedding of a virtual file system into an existing NTFS structure, offers complete compatibility with Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Server R2 and has other valuable improvements. Major update of Callback File System (CBFS) gives software developers a fast and convenient tool for creation of sophisticated virtual disks and even more, not available elsewhere, - creation of virtual directories.

Callback File System allows developer to present any data, either to end-user or to applications, as files and folders of a local virtual disk. Source data may obtained during run-time from binary data of any type, such as database records, remote or local files, e-mail messages, etc., located in a single place or distributed over a network. Callback File System provides developers with all functionalities expected from a full-fledged file system. It gives either end-users or 3rd party applications possibility to read and modify corresponding data on-the-fly transparently and efficiently as if they were files on a local disk. Moreover, actual location of data is hidden from an end-user or application. With Callback File System developers can create and apply a permission schema, specifying what application or users can access, view or modify data through access to virtual files and folders. Callback File System also provides support of all NTFS security functions.

New major version of Callback File System includes ability to create virtual directory on an existing NTFS disk. Therefore, while the number of drives remains the same, an access to required data is provided through the virtual folder. For end-users or third-party applications it will look exactly the same as any conventional folder. Developers who prefer creation of virtual drives instead of virtual folders will be glad to hear that a custom icon can now be assigned to any virtual drive. This improves ability to visualize distinction between virtual and ordinary drives. Moreover, an installation of CBFS-based end product is now significantly simplified reducing the load on personnel installing end-products and making end-user installation easier. And even more, data stored on virtual disks or inside virtual directories can now be easily located by their ID in addition to regular searches by name.

“Our leading product, Callback File System, is well known among developers looking for secure and efficient ways of data representation.”, – says Eugene Mayevski, EldoS CTO. – “People are accustomed to the convenience that Callback File System gives them. We are closely collaborating with them and this release, Version 3.0 covers lots of their requests from rather minor ability to set a user-defined icon for a virtual disk, up to very significant feature of virtual directories creation on any local drive. We also significantly improved compatibility of our solution with Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Server R2.”

Callback File System is the part of product line-up including CallbackFilter component for low-level real-time monitoring and control of file access, and CallbackDisk component for rapid development of virtual disks based on existing disk images.
