Seattle Law Firm Launches School Teacher Supplies Gift Giving Program
Davis Law Group Awards $100 Office Depot® Gift Card Each Week to a Seattle Public School Teacher
Seattle, WA, January 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Seattle attorney Chris Davis and his wife Mischelle have started a program to help public school teachers get the classroom supplies they need without having to dig deep into their own pockets. The Davis Law Group School Supplies Gift Program will give a $100 Office Depot gift card each week to a deserving Seattle Public school teacher and his/her class.
According to a study by the National School Supply and Equipment Association (NSSEA), a whopping 97% of public school teachers frequently dip into their own pockets to purchase necessary classroom supplies. NSSEA states that U.S. public school teachers spent more than $1.33 billion out of pocket on supplies and instructional materials in the 2009-2010 school year.
“My mother and Chris’ mother were both public school teachers,” said Mischelle Davis. “When we heard that teachers spend $356 per year on average of their own money on school supplies we knew we wanted to help.”
The poor economy and shriveled school budgets have forced officials to make drastic spending cuts. The cuts are so deep that teachers have to spend their own money to buy basic supplies for students. That’s not right. Teachers now spend a lot of money on software, educational games, paper, crayons, pencils, glue and other similar materials. And some are purchasing supplies for those students that just can’t afford to buy the basics.
“We wanted to find a way to recognize teachers for their commitment and help relieve some of their financial burden,” said attorney Chris Davis.
Each week during the school year Davis Law Group will give a $100 Office Depot gift card to one lucky Seattle Public Schools teacher to use in his or her classroom. Anyone can nominate a teacher for this program, including that teacher, and students, parents, and administrators.
