Victorian Education Department Sets Their "i" on Lava Web Design for Groundbreaking iPad Project

Lava Web Creations works with the Department of Education & Early Childhood Development (DEECD) in Victoria to combine great design and education on a practical website that can be used across platforms, bringing Victorian education into the 21st Century.

Melbourne, Australia, March 30, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Individuals, businesses, and especially schools are discovering that technologies like the iPad open up new galaxies of opportunity in the classroom. The Victorian Government recently teamed up with Melbourne's most highly regarded niche web design team, Lava Web Creations, to create a central site that allows teachers to collaborate and build a body of knowledge relating to using the iPad in a learning environment.

Lava Web Creations recently collaborated with the Department of Education & Early Childhood Development (DEECD) to create a website where teachers can share their experiences with using iPads in an education arena; an innovative project that suits the creative web design team's approach well.

The iPads for Education site (http://www.ipadsforeducation.vic.edu.au/) is a resource to assist teachers in introducing the iPad in a classroom context. It includes:

Case studies detailing various educators' experiences with using the iPad in the classroom
Recommended apps for learning
Ideas for incorporating the technology into the classroom
Guidelines for success with the iPad

The iPads for Education site was built for three different platforms. Separate sites were created for desktop PCs, mobile devices, and the iPad, with the iPad site version taking the lion's share of development time.

Development of the iPad site presented some unique opportunities and challenges for the Lava Melbourne web design team, including:

· Using swipe, drag and drop and touch actions instead of mouse clicks
· Incorporating motion-sensitivity into the site, so that the site rotates when a user rotates their iPad
· Building to a single operating system, browser and resolution rather than multiple systems as is required for the desktop version

Stuart Gonsal, managing director at Lava's Melbourne website design office, was especially enthusiastic about this project. "I believe our genuine interest in the unique/cool specifications, combined with Lava’s folio of highly customised solutions, enabled us to win the tender process. We love to innovate! This project is definitely one of the most unique and cool specs we’ve received so we’re bang up for the job," Mr. Gonsal said.

Pat McGarry, Senior Project Officer for the DEECD couldn’t be happier with the result, “This website design has exceeded our expectations and is constantly described as unique and the best presented website on an iPad. It has been a source of pride… to see the content we have developed presented in such an extraordinary manner…” He also remarked that “Lava’s work ethic, approachability, flexibility in accommodating design changes and professionalism have driven this project.”
