Gavin's Gusto Battles Against Health Care Constraints When Trying to Maintain Child's Quality of Life

Gavin has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, and needs a wheelchair accessible vehicle in order to enjoy activities outside his home. His family wants to give him the freedom he deserves, but health insurance doesn't cover the cost for this fundamental "need." Gavin Needs Our Help.

Gavin's Gusto Battles Against Health Care Constraints When Trying to Maintain Child's Quality of Life
Buffalo, MN, May 15, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Spinal Muscular Atrophy destroys the motor neurons that control voluntary muscle movement, making it difficult for Gavin to ever crawl or walk, and causing the body's muscles to get progressively weaker. This family has encountered many challenges since Gavin's diagnosis. Medical bills continue to mount, they had to build a wheelchair accessible home to allow Gavin some mobility, and now they are battling against their insurance company who won't pay for an accessible van.

So how does this family transport Gavin to and from school, physical therapy, and doctor's appointments? How does Gavin enjoy things like the zoo, or the mall, or anywhere outside the home? The answer is that he can't without an accessible vehicle. Without it, he has to be carried or put in a stroller. And when he gets to where he's going, he can only sit and watch everyone else have fun, because he can't move around without his power wheelchair.

If our healthcare system won't help this family, then who will?

Gavin's Gusto is going to help this family.

Gavin's Gusto is doing a benefit for this family on June 23, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo, MN. Event includes rummage/bake sale, silent auction, and raffle. Event runs from 9am - 4pm.
