The American Diabetes Association Hosts 16th Annual Fundraiser Annual Stars of Texas… Racing Against the Odds: Life Can Still be Sweet – Sugarfree!
Dallas, TX, April 12, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The American Diabetes Association continues the journey for a diabetes cure by hosting its 16th Annual Stars of Texas… Racing Against the Odds Fundraiser at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie at 5:00 PM April 25th .

The benefit, which turns Sweet Sixteen this year, selected the theme: Life can still be sweet – Sugarfree! The monies raised benefit diabetes research at these local universities: University of Texas at Dallas, University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, University of North Texas Health Science Center, and University of Texas Health Center at Tyler; educational programs; and most importantly, a week-long summer camp for children facing this disease.

Since its inception in 1997, The Stars of Texas…Racing Against the Odds event has been hosted by honorary chairs: celebrated sports broadcaster, Randy Galloway, and his wife Janeen. “We were motivated to get involved with the fight against diabetes after we lost several dear family members to the disease,” said Randy Galloway. “I’m both humbled and proud to say that in past years, this event has generated more than $4 million dollars to benefit the American Diabetes Association’s mission to prevent and cure diabetes. We hope to reach the $4.5 million dollar goal this year.”

The event features a thoroughbred horseracing and offers guests the opportunity to mingle with sports and media celebrities, sample eclectic cuisine, and bid toward silent and live auction items. Celebrities scheduled to appear at this year’s event include some of our Dallas Cowboys, Daryl Johnston, Walt Garrison, Preston Pearson, Sonny Burgess, Nolan Ryan, Charlie Pride, Janie Fricke, Rudy Gatlin, and many more.

Auction items include Sixteen Diamond Heart Necklace in honor of their Happy Sweet 16 by local jeweler Curtis Miller, a “Photo Finish” Suite at Lone Star Park, Golf Game with Channel 8’s Dale Hansen, tickets to a Brad Paisley event, Homes in Colorado and much more.

Tickets are still available for Stars of Texas, but the event typically sells out quickly. To purchase tickets or to learn more about the event, call 214.616.3868 or visit www.diabetes.org/StarsofTexas. The cocktail hour will begin at 5:00 PM and the buffet, racing and auction will be held from 6:00 – 10:00 PM. Valet parking is available for all guests.

Join Randy, Janeen, and hundreds of friends at Lone Star park at Grand Prairie, TX to help meet the lifetime goal of raising $4.5 million dollars for diabetes research and education.
