Minerva Demonstrates Advanced RDK Compliant Solution for Next-Generation Television Services Over Cable Networks

Complete solution, featuring Minerva 10 platform and IP/QAM RDK Gateways enables cable operators to offer advanced television services while preserving legacy infrastructure investment.

Los Angeles, CA, April 29, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Cable Show -- Minerva Networks, a leading provider of software platforms for advanced entertainment services, today demonstrated a complete IP/QAM solution for the delivery of multiscreen television services to RDK gateways and connected consumer devices.

Based on the recently unveiled Minerva 10 platform, the new solution enables cable MSOs to blend their traditional QAM linear content with new IP services like recommendations, targeted advertising, whole-home digital video recording, restart TV, catch-up TV, cloud-based video on demand and multiscreen video delivery.

The Minerva 10 entertainment delivery platform features a scalable, state-of-the-art distributed architecture and a portfolio of native and HTML5-based client applications. The HTML5-based client running on the Reference Design Kit (RDK) software stack introduces a personalized landing page that unifies discovery across all video sources and engages subscribers with recommendations for live, recorded, and on demand content. Minerva 10 also features optimized native applications for iOS and Android mobile devices as well as popular streaming media players and connected TVs.

“Integrating the Minerva 10 platform with the standardized software stack provided through the RDK and with leading consumer streaming devices will allow cable operators to rapidly and cost-effectively launch advanced services,” said Eric Freund, Minerva’s Vice President of Product Marketing. “Our new solution paves the way towards an all IP delivery model and provides cable operators with a great deal of flexibility vis-a-vis deployment and monetization strategies.”

The new Minerva solution features real-time measurement of service quality and consumption. Operators are able to optimize the subscriber experience, manage costs and leverage usage data for advertising and cross-service promotions. Streamlined service operations make it easy to define and enforce complex business rules to support evolving content rights and advertising requirements.

When asked about the opportunity new IP/QAM solutions offer cable operators, Mukul Krishna, Senior Global Director of Digital Media at Frost & Sullivan stated: "Hyper-connectivity fueled consumer demand for time and space shifted content across managed and unmanaged devices is a key challenge as well as a massive opportunity for MVPDs. Especially in the context of Cable IPfication, the ability to provide seamless and sticky TVE experiences will be a key churn management and competitive factor going forward. Middleware and deployment flexibility that leverages the cloud are therefore going to be critical for operators to compete. Minerva's latest version is a great example of how the vendor community is stepping up to help operators succeed in this dynamic and unpredictable environment."

The new Minerva RDK compliant solution will be made available to select MSOs in the summer of 2014. For more information please contact Minerva at sales@minervanetworks.com.
