After Serving More Than 1 Million Guests, Family Owned Triangle Barbecue Restaurants Change Hands
GMW Carolina, Triangle owner of three Dickey’s Barbecue Pit locations, has sold all locations to another local company. The husband and wife leadership team comment on family, giving back to the community, reflect on the past and the future of the company.
Chapel Hill, NC, September 13, 2016 --(PR.com)-- After having celebrated being part of the community for 10 years, GMW Carolina (GMWC) has sold the assets to operate all 3 Dickey’s Barbecue Pit locations to H&R Contracting & Realty. GMWC will refocus on its other lines of business. The transition occurred start of business Tuesday September 6th, 2016.
Gregory Woloszczuk, President and Co-Founder of GMWC stated “We will continue to be part of the community and focus all our energy on IT & Business Consulting.” The company over the past few years has provided business consulting and IT advisory services. Recently, Gregory joined the Advisory Board for Your Local Studio. He went on to say “helping others grow their business and sharing lessons learned along the way is core to our values.” The consulting service provides practical advice with a focus on results.
Maureen Woloszczuk, Vice President and Co-Founder of GMWC went on to say “It has been incredible seeing our family grow up in the business and help with its success. All 6 of our now adult children started off at entry level positions and earned their way to leadership roles. They were all held to a higher standard than the other employees.” Maureen along with family members and employees, supported hundreds of events throughout the Triangle. The events ranged from family reunions, charitable fundraisers, weddings, and VIP events for well known musicians and other celebrities.
The company has employed hundreds of people over the past few years. For some, the company provided their first job, for others a return to the workforce, and for many the opportunity to grow their skills and move into leadership roles. All employees have been offered positions with the new operating company. The expectation is for a seamless transition and “business as usual” as Maureen continued to comment. In addition, the company has used many local businesses for construction, repair and other services that resulted in and provided jobs for many more people throughout the area and contributed millions to the economy.
“We have had a long history of giving back to the community,” stated Maureen. Another core value of the company is giving back to organizations that promote education or health. Maureen has a goal of raising and contributing $1,000 for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on September 24th. The team is Zingo Welsh for those interested in contributing. Over the past 10 years the company has provided cash and gift in kind donations to countless organizations.
GMWC has been recognized for its strong record of giving back to the community. Restaurants and retail are a core foundation for any community. Gregory went on to say “When people are looking to raise funds - restaurants and retail are among the first places people visit to ask for donations. We have been fortunate to be among so many very generous business owners and always gave back - even during the most difficult times such as the Great Recession.”
Locations sold:
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit
200 Crossroads Blvd., Cary
5318 New Hope Commons Drive, Durham
170 E. Davie Street, Raleigh
Gregory and Maureen expressed their thanks to all their guests via a celebration held on August 29, 2016. They appreciate the community supporting them. The Great Recession saw lots of good people lose their businesses and more. The support from the community via frequenting the restaurants and resulting in more than a dozen “best of” awards is humbling. Both look forward to the next decade of business.
