)-- A British study (2016) reported pregnancy rates of 46% (versus 22%) of women undergoing IVF procedures. This is more than double the rate of those women not having concurrent acupuncture treatment.
Dr. Kathleen Albertson, a renowned acupuncturist specializing in fertility, commented, “This is fantastic news for couples seeking in vitro fertilization- as over 12% of couple in the US are unable to conceive naturally and IUI and IVF treatments have steadily increased as that alternative for conceiving. The drawback for many couples, is cost of that protocol!”
IVF is not covered by insurance in many states and may be prohibitive to many couples. Costs in the US ranges anywhere from $10,000 to $24,000, depending on the woman’s age, medical history and degree of stimulation needed. “This can be out of reach for many couples’ pocket books!” Using acupuncture con-currently is proven to be twice as effective in achieving pregnancy.
Often, couples undergo not one, but two or three rounds to achieve results.
“The more education, knowledge and information provided by doctors and practitioners to couples is invaluable. It may save them additional time and costs and help them achieve their fertility goals more quickly; with less financial burden,” she reports.
Acupuncture also is effective for helping women with menstrual irregularities achieve a regular hormonal cycle so they can conceive naturally.
Other studies have shown significantly that acupuncture lowers recurrent pregnancy loss and ectopic pregnancy rates (Magarelli, Cridennda, 2007).
Several studies show male factor benefits as well.
Acupuncture offers hope and better results for many for whom Western medicine is trying to or not yet helped.
