WinRAR 4.0 Beta 1 Released

The latest version of WinRAR will decompress multimedia files 30% quicker, saves used archive passwords for re-utilization and offers optimized Unicode support.

Berlin, Germany, November 17, 2010 --(PR.com)-- win.rar GmbH and Rarlab introduced the first beta version of WinRAR 4.0. The world's leading compression software now works faster. Depending on data type, decompression can be up to 30% faster than in previous versions. With the newly integrated password manager, users are able to have their favourite archive encoding passwords saved for future follow ups. Even better, the software's Unicode support has been optimized.

30% faster decompression:
Thanks to the accelerated decompression via RAR Algorithm, users can now extract their files 30% faster than the previous WinRAR versions. Especially those users who normally work with large video or digital picture files will have something to look forward to since the change of the extracting speed is most noticeable in the multimedia files extraction.

The new password manager to save frequently used passwords:
WinRAR made it possible for users to encode and tag their archives with passwords. With the new “password organizer” function, for the first time ever, users can define and save their frequently used passwords.

This way, the password could be applied and retrieved easily and comfortably at any time for file extracting purposes. Even better, users can also extract several different files at the same time as long as they are encrypted with the same password. Should there be no password entered, WinRAR will automatically skip all encoded archives during the compression process.

Improved Unicode Support:
Another highlight of the new WinRAR version is the numerous improvements in the Unicode support. For example, WinRAR 4.0 now supports non-English file names. Noticeable improvement can be seen in WinRAR in "Rename", "Convert", "Find" and other commands, in the folder tree panel, in password request dialog and in many other parts of WinRAR interface. Moreover, messages can now be delivered in HTML or Unicode text files.

Further important innovations of WinRAR 4.0 Beta 1:
· A better Blu-ray Support: UDF support has been upgraded to UDF 2.50 revision. It makes it possible to unpack most Blue-ray ISO files. While browsing the UDF ISO file, UDF revision number is displayed after the "UDF" format name in WinRAR address tool bar and in archive information´s pop up window.

· Optional password display: via analogous password dialogue in the packing and unpacking process, passwords now can be visible during both processes.

· Message list in GUI SFX archives only displays the operation status and error messages. It does not contain the names of all extracted files anymore. This change improves the extracting speed process and reduces memory capacity for SFX archives containing a large number of files. Also, it makes it easier to locate error messages since they are not hidden among the extracted file names.

· At a glance: if an archive with recovery records (retrieval information) and recovery volumes are being processed, WinRAR 4.0 will show the processing status in percentage.

WinRAR distinguishes itself through the high compression rate and offers all the advantages of the RAR formats, such as: solid archive system and split archives, recovery records, self-extracting archive, converting functionality for archive and plenty of security options. At the same time, the program could run smoothly, while using minimal disk space. Apart from the RAR format, WinRAR also supports a long list of non-RAR formats, as well as ZIP format, and therefore offers the best compatibility in its class.

Another tip: for all Windows-64-Bit-users, it is highly recommended to install the WinRAR 64 Bit version. It is faster, and offers a better integration than the 32-Bit version. WinRAR´s compression speed under Windows Vista and Windows 7 or any other multi-core-system with more than one main processor would be increased considerably.
