Atwood Technology Hosting Third Atlantic Workshop on Semantics and Services

Semantics (Web 3.0), the future of the internet and artificial intelligence, is gaining ground in research and business solutions. Academia, business and the National Research Council come together to host the third workshop on innovative technology: semantics and internet services.

Atwood Technology Hosting Third Atlantic Workshop on Semantics and Services
Miramichi, Canada, April 07, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Atwood Technology Inc. (www.atwoodtechnology.com), the world leader in ontology-based human semantics, will host the third Atlantic Workshop on Semantics and Services (AWoSS3) at its headquarters in Miramichi, New Brunswick, on May 18, 2011. Semantics (Web 3.0) is the next generation in internet technology and further incorporates efficiency into the World Wide Web through artificial intelligence.

AWoSS originated with the University of New Brunswick (Faculty of Computer Science) and the National Research Council Canada (Institute for Information Technology) with two installments in 2010, one in Fredericton, NB (http://www.cs.unb.ca/~wdu/ssworkshop) and the other in Moncton, NB (http://www.unbsj.ca/sase/csas/data/awoss2-2010/index.html). Its goal is to bring researchers and practitioners in the Atlantic Provinces together to share advances and best practices in (Web) semantics and services. Although the original focus has been regional, the workshop has also attracted interest beyond Atlantic Canada. Attendees have come from other parts of Canada, and AWoSS anticipates international attendance in upcoming installments.

The Atlantic Workshop on Semantics and Services provides two tracks during the daylong session. The morning track is an informal technical forum with emphasis on conceptual and technical challenges for semantics, services, and applying semantics to services. This track is geared toward researchers and practitioners.

The afternoon track focuses on the business applications of semantics and services and provides executives and managers with ideas about how they can use semantics and services in their business to create a competitive advantage, better serve customers, and improve efficiency. This track is also designed for those among the general public who may be interested in learning more about the leading trends in the internet. The free workshop will be organized with presentation and discussion sessions so that participants can acquaint themselves with each others' current research and practice activities and exchange ideas. Atwood will be presenting its online dating product www.kipici.com.

For researchers and practitioners who also seek semantic training, AWoSS is scheduled to coincide with the Semantic Automated Discovery and Integration (SADI) Spring School featuring web publishing of scientific data and services training courses. SADI courses start the day after AWoSS3, on May 19, 2011, in Fredericton, New Brunswick. For further details on SADI, please visit: http://sadiframework.org.
