15-Year Old Pays Tribute to the Late Whitney Houston at El Portal Theater in North Hollywoood
North Hollywood, CA, June 05, 2012 --(PR.com)-- On May 29th, 2012 the students of San Fernando Valley Professional School were featured in the school’s first concert. Held at the famous El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood, the show included students of all ages presenting their talents in singing, dancing, and acting. Hosting the show was Clive Pearse from HGTV's "Design Star" and 10 year old stand-up comedian Jj Totah. Paying special tribute to the late Whitney Houston was Hollywood’s newest rising star and former Inspiration For Excellence Talent winner, 15 year old NicKayla. Singing since the age of two in her church choir, NicKayla has always admired Miss Houston and is delighted that she was chosen to do the tribute song, "I Will Always Love You." Not new to show business, NicKayla won at the Apollo Theater at the age of four, starred in Law & Order SVU with KeKe Palmer, travelled with the International Tour of Annie, and performed in The Lion King on Broadway. After NicKayla's soft, melodic, yet powerful, rendition of “I Will Always Love You,” the audience showed their appreciation, rising to their feet, with looks of amazement and teary eyes. This was one of many standing ovations for the night. Another one being Zayne Emory (Desperate Housewives), with his soulful swagger, wooed the audience with Ray LaMontagne’s “Trouble,” as he swooned “trouble been doggin' my soul since the day I was born.” Special guest, Chris Dane, an alumnus of the school and currently serving in the US Marines, after a moment of silence for our men and women at war, sang a heart-warming rendition of “Letters From War” by Mark Schultz.

Since being in Hollywood, NicKayla booked her first TV pilot and filmed a commercial with the young pop singing group Mindless Behavior. Currently in the studio recording one of her original songs, NicKayla’s goal is to debut her first single on the Jay Leno Show, a dream she has had since she was four years old.

The San Fernando Valley Professional School, Hollywood’s best kept secret, is a unique college preparatory private "non profit" school, dedicated to ensuring that its students achieve a strong academic education, while enabling them to meet their professional goals. Many of their students are actively working in the entertainment industry as actors, singers, musicians, dancers and athletes. Past and present students are either pursuing or involved in the fine or performing arts.
