)-- The National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship
(NACCE), the nation’s leading organization focused on promoting entrepreneurship through community colleges, has been invited to participate in TechHire, a national initiative created by the White House to get more Americans rapidly trained for well-paying technology jobs through innovative training programs offered by universities and community colleges.
NACCE is partnering with the California Community College’s Doing What MATTERS for Jobs and Economy initiative to provide New World of Work 21st Century Employability Skills training to 50 TechHire communities. NACCE has 58 member colleges in these communities, serving 1.1 million students. Together they will offer three train-the-trainer webinars on techniques for accessing open source (free) curriculum for use by faculty in community colleges. TechHire instructors will have access to lesson plans, training videos, slide decks and assessment tools. Instructors will also be offered coaching and materials to implement and strengthen workplace programs.

The United States has about five million open jobs currently, more than at any point since 2001. Over half a million of these job openings are in information technology fields like software development, network administration, user-interface design and cyber security – many of which didn’t even exist just a decade ago. The average salary in a job that requires IT skills – whether in manufacturing, advertising, retail or banking – is 50 percent higher than the average private-sector job. Through TechHire, over 300 employer partners are working together on new ways to train, recruit and place applicants in jobs based on their technology skills.

The New World of Work 21st Century Employability Skills training was developed based on research through employers and industry feedback and addresses the unique workforce demands of 21st century workers. Competencies include adaptability, analysis/solution mindset, communication, collaboration, entrepreneurial mindset, self-awareness, social/diversity awareness, resilience, digital fluency and empathy in the workplace.
