)-- When Tom Ellixson’s wife was offered a job in her hometown of Phoenix, it was impossible for them to say "No." It was the opportunity of a lifetime. Ellixson, his wife and their son packed up their lives and moved from Philadelphia to the Valley of the Sun. Along with this change, Ellixson also decided he needed a new start.
After nine years as an account executive for W.B. Mason, Ellixson was searching for something different. A new challenge. He decided it was time to jump into a field that always interested him.
“When I made the move to Phoenix, I was thinking about making a switch in careers. Trying out something different as I had worked at W.B. Mason for nine years since graduating college,” Ellixson said. “It was just kind of the right time to make the switch to something else. Real estate has always been an interest of mine so when we moved out here, I decided to go in a new direction.”
With that decision, Menlo Group is proud to welcome Ellixson as their newest advisor. For Menlo Group, Ellixson will be representing clients in the industrial space where he will help them buy, sell, and lease properties.
When it came to finding a brokerage with which to start his new career, Ellixson talked with several around the Phoenix market and found Menlo Group to be the best option with a clear vision for him.
“They (Tanner Milne, President, and Bryan Bunker, COO) had a specific situation in mind and they wanted me to become a specialist in industrial,” Ellixson said. “They had this in mind for someone to come in and really learn and fine tune in that industrial market. Every other brokerage was a little broader. But Tanner and Bryan were very prepared, and it was impressive to me how ready they were with an idea and a game plan.”
Using the expertise he gained from cold calling and building his business for W.B. Mason, Ellixson already has a plan to become an indispensable commercial real estate advisor in the Phoenix market.
“I’m going to make sure the client is always taken care of. I will always make myself readily available. Once I go out and find the clients, I will tell them how I’ll treat them, how I’ll take care of them. I’ll always answer the phone, always respond to emails, and make sure their needs are taken care of as quickly as possible,” said Ellixson.
It’s this plan that Ellixson believes will help establish him as one of the top industrial real estate specialists in Phoenix. Milne is already seeing the beginning of a great real estate career.
“Tom’s experience coupled with his drive to serve clients and ensure their success will make him an indispensable resource. I’m confident this will lead to a great real estate career here in Phoenix,” said Milne.
When looking at his first year, Ellixson plans on learning as much as he can about the industrial market and making a name for himself.
As for location, Ellixson doesn’t think there’s a better place for this new start than Phoenix. He’s only been here for a short time, but already sees the strength and the vibrancy of the local real estate market.
“I know the Phoenix area was hit hard in the 2008 recession, but now it’s really bouncing back from that. It’s a great opportunity right now,” said Ellixson.
Outside of work, Ellixson enjoys spending time with his family and taking advantage of the great outdoor activities his new home has to offer, such as hiking. He also enjoys keeping up with his hometown Philly sports teams and playing basketball.
Being new to the area, Ellixson is looking forward to finding ways to give back to the community as well. It will be a part of his new life in Phoenix, an opportunity about which he is truly excited.
