BBC Film Network and depo consulting Launch Second Life Cinema
Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, April 23, 2008 --(PR.com)-- depo consulting, the virtual brand experience specialist, in conjunction with BBC Film Network, is launching a virtual cinema in Second Life with a programme of award-winning British independent short films.

The Film Network is the BBC’s interactive showcase for new British filmmakers, screening new short films in broadband quality from their website every week, adding to a growing catalogue of over 500 great shorts.

The site allows people to comment on and rate films and also provides filmmakers with tools to create online profiles and exchange tips, advice and ideas. The purpose is to expose new talent and create a platform for some great films that are rarely seen elsewhere.

“Film Network is constantly trying to develop new ways of screening film and Second Life presents an opportunity to explore the potential of virtual worlds and engage with a new audience,” said Claire Cook, Senior Producer, BBC Film Network

"With this space you have the ability to combine the immediacy and convenience of the Internet, with the social experience of actually visiting a cinema," said depo CEO and creative director Peter Dunkley. "Our experience with Haydn Shaughnessy’s Ten Cubed art gallery has shown that you can actually enhance people's experience of art – and we are keen to see how this extends to cinema.”

depo consulting, which specialises in the creation of tools and practices for business collaboration, improved business process management, as well as consumer marketing strategies in virtual worlds, built the gallery to demonstrate the potential of virtual space to complement and substitute for exhibitions and trade shows.

"With this space what you have is proof that you can enhance people's experience of art," said depo CEO and creative director Peter Dunkley. "The wider truth is virtual worlds can also be used to substitute for the travel and expense of attending any exhibition or event."

The first screening is to be shown at 8pm on Thursday 24th April, the programme will be showing for three weeks, and entry is free. Details of what’s on at the cinema can be found on depo’s website at:
