Portland State Selects EQUELLA to Preserve Digitized Intellectual Output

The Learning Edge North America, today announced that Portland State University has selected EQUELLA, the award-winning Digital Repository to meet the need for a centralized system to access and preserve the campus’s digitized intellectual output.

Boston, MA, September 18, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Learning Edge North America, today announced that Portland State University has selected EQUELLA, the award-winning Digital Repository to meet the need for a centralized system to access and preserve the campus’s digitized intellectual output.

Portland State University is Oregon’s largest, most diverse and only urban university, with over 27,000 students and 1,200 faculty members. Portland State offers in excess of 125 degree programs.

EQUELLA was selected following the completion of an Institutional Repository Needs Assessment by Portland State University’s Library and Office of Information Technology.

The assessment was conducted to fulfill the need for Web-based services related to the access and use of scholarly and creative work generated at Portland State University. The outcome of the assessment supports the Library’s Strategic Plan to acquire, develop, make accessible, and preserve diverse information resources in appropriate formats for the Portland State community.

“Portland State University’s selection of EQUELLA is a continuation of the Library’s strategic plan,” said Adriene Lim, Associate University Librarian. “We believe that the University’s work will benefit through the support of a digital repository.”

The implementation of EQUELLA will further enhance Portland State’s leadership position through the provision of a globally accessible repository, raising the visibility of and increasing access to Portland State-generated intellectual property and archival objects. Some of these resources would otherwise be inaccessible or difficult to reach by the broader academic and civic communities.

“We are pleased to welcome Portland State University to the growing EQUELLA User Community,” said Peter Van Tienen, General Manager North America. “Portland State is a great example of an institution conducting a thorough evaluation process to select a solution to meet their needs.”
