Free Nordic Walking Classes Coming To Northport Highlands Retirement Community
Glen Arbor, MI, October 04, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Free Nordic Walking Classes including real Nordic Walking Poles to test drive will be available during Northport Highlands Retirement Community’s Senior Health & Fitness Expo.

The Health & Fitness Expo will run from 10am – 2pm on Thursday, October, 15th. The Northport Highlands Retirement Community is located in beautiful Northport, Michigan – at the north tip of the Leelanau Peninsula.

Nordic Walking Poles radically improve balance and stability – a huge aid even for those Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s (PD), Neuropathy and other balance issues. Nordic Walking is no longer just for athletes and expert skiers.

Walking with poles also helps to burn more calories than regular walking.

The free Nordic Walking Classes hosted by Pete Edwards, www.SkiWalking.com and the American Nordic Walking System. Edwards will supply user-friendly one-piece poles for participants to test drive. One-piece poles are safer, lighter and much more durable than cheap twist-locking adjustable length/telescoping/collapsible poles. Edwards has been coaching runners and skiers for over 25 years and knows that skiers use one-piece poles and not twist-locking collapsible poles.

Walking with poles provides a more effective workout than regular walking – basically turbo charging the average walking campaign. Free lessons and free use of real Nordic Walking poles will be provided. No snow and No skis required.

Northport Highlands, a 41-unit senior community opened on High Street in Northport in late July. The community offers a home-like setting for seniors who want to live independently but may need assistance or just want the security and peace of mind available in a group setting.
