Miss ESL Canada: Toronto English School Chelsea Sponsors Beauty and Brains Contest Featuring ESL Students, Teachers and Staff

After a year of challenges for the ESL industry worldwide, finally a bit of fun for hardworking staff, students and observers with the inaugural Miss ESL Canada contest, sponsored by Chelsea Language Academy. Pretty girls with accents: can it get any better than this?

Toronto, Canada, January 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The economic recession and H1N1 delivered serious challenges to many International ESL students, schools and employees in 2009. So, now that the worst seems to be over, the principal of Chelsea Language School in Toronto, Robbie McMullan, feels it's time for a little celebration of sorts. His chosen method: to hold a beauty and brains contest that's open to all students and employees involved in Canada's ESL industry.

McMullan explains, “We're going to use the power of the Internet to gather and prequalify participants for the final show by having each of them email in a photo and a brief description of why they should be chosen. Successful applicants will then have their photos and essays posted on Chelsea's ESL blog at http://languagini.blogspot.com and they will be invited to the final show that will be held in Toronto on May 15th. We will give online viewers an opportunity to comment on the prequalifiers – a kind of a modification of the American Idol / Canadian Idol model. Then, at the show itself, Miss ESL Canada will be selected by a panel of judges as the member of the finalists' group who embodies the best combination of beauty, brains, personality and character.”

McMullan encourages people to have fun and nominate themselves or just that pretty and smart ESL student, English teacher or industry employee they know. McMullan says with a grin, “hey, my own wife was a Junior Miss Korea winner herself; so, I have, of course, nominated her. Just don't tell her about it,” he adds with a laugh.
