)-- The IEEE Wireless Communications & Networking Conference (WCNC 2012) has initiated the registration process for its annual event to be held April 1 – 4 at the Palais des Congrès – Porte Maillot in Paris, France. Devoted to the entire range of wireless communications and networking technologies, IEEE WCNC 2012 will include 620 technical papers delivered throughout four tracks, nine tutorials, seven workshops, four keynotes and eight business panels exploring topics ranging from the latest advances in digital cellular, PCS, multimedia and wireless networking technologies to channel modeling, radio resource management and emerging mobile applications.
“The legendary scenic and artistic beauty of Paris will offer a spectacular backdrop for IEEE WCNC 2012,” said Professor Hikmet Sari, the conference’s General Chair. “It will also supply a magnificent atmosphere for profiling the latest visionary research, services and applications that are actively reshaping global businesses, entertainment and social practices.

IEEE WCNC 2012 will commence on Sunday, April 1 with nine tutorials and seven workshops offered by leading international researchers and industry experts representing renowned institutions and corporations from all continents. Specific areas to be discussed include “Mobile Cloud Computing,” “Heterogeneous Cellular Networks,” “Machine-to-Machine in Smart Grids and Smart Cities,” “Future Green Communications,” “Wireless Vehicular Communications and Networks,” “Cooperation and Coordination Over Cellular Networks,” “Internet of Things Enabling Technologies” and “Wireless Cloud and White Space Oriented Networks.”
Monday, April 2 will then mark the start of the conference’s executive and technical program highlighted by the conference’s keynote schedule. Included will be the addresses of Gee Rittenhouse, Vice President of Bell Labs Research, and Siavash Alamouti, Group R&D Director of Vodafone. Responsible for overseeing all Bell Labs research centers and the research activities for Alcatel-Lucent, Rittenhouse is actively engaged in green technology research, creating innovations that promote environmental sustainability and improving the energy efficiency of ICT networks by a factor of 1000 from current levels. Formerly an Intel Fellow and the CTO of Mobile Wireless Group at Intel Corp., Alamouti is best known for the invention of the Alamouti space–time block code, a 2 transmit antenna space-time block code and has been adopted for use in standards worldwide.
On the following morning, the keynotes will then proceed with the addresses of Andrea Goldsmith, Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, and Thomas Sälzer, Director of R&D at Huawei Technologies France. Dr. Sälzer is currently responsible for research and standardization activities of mobile radio systems such as HSPA and LTE, while Dr. Goldsmith currently serves on the Steering Committee for the Transactions on Wireless Communications and editor for the Journal on Foundations and Trends in Communications and Information Theory and in Networks. She is also the author of “Wireless Communications'” and co-author of “MIMO Wireless Communications.”
Also beginning on Monday and running through Wednesday will be the presentation of eight executive panels highlighting the experiences and visionary insights of senior executives from Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia Siemens Networks, Ericsson, Huawei, NEC, France Telecom, Deutsche Telecom, Telefonica, Britsh Telecom, Telekom Austria, Clearwire and Packet One, among others. Some of the many areas addressed will be “Will the Internet of the future be a Wireless Internet?” “Mobile Communication Systems for Vertical Industry Sectors,” “Small Cells: A Smart Way towards Future Mobile Broadband,” “The Role of Shared Use in Solving the (Projected) Spectrum Crunch” and “Facing the Growth of Mobile Broadband: The Spectrum Dilemma.”
Still under development and soon to be announced is IEEE WCNC 2012’s technical program, which will consist of 620 original research papers presented across 90 oral sessions and 25 individual poster sessions. Selected after a rigorous review of more than 1,400 original submissions received from 72 countries, these papers will cover the next wave of research and breakthroughs within the wireless communications and networking field.
