Positive Promotions Announces Winning Schools for 2012 Red Ribbon Week Contest
Hauppauge, NY, April 04, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Each October, schools and communities across the nation celebrate Red Ribbon Week to teach children about the harmful effects of drugs. Positive Promotions supports Red Ribbon Week by sponsoring an annual contest to recognize the creative ways in which schools and communities encourage their youth to live a healthy, drug free life. The company is pleased to announce and congratulate the 2012 Red Ribbon Week contest winners.

This year, Positive Promotions received hundreds of outstanding Red Ribbon Week contest entries. From those entries, 4 elementary schools and 4 middle schools were chosen as winners. The 1st through 3rd place winners in both divisions received monetary awards ranging from $300 to $100, while 2 honorable mentions received a $25 gift certificate for a future purchase from Positive Promotions.

The 1st place grand prize winner of $300 in the middle school division is Creekland Middle School in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The school stood out for its wide variety of Red Ribbon Week activities. Throughout the week, students participated in dress-up “theme days.” These themes, such as crazy sock day, whose purpose was to “Sock It to Drugs,” or team jersey day, to “Team Up Against Drugs,” provided fun ways for students to express their individuality and vow to live drug free. Other activities included a door decorating contest to fit their theme, “Be All You Can Be ...Be Drug Free,” and drug prevention lessons suitable for each grade level. Every student received a Positive Promotions personalized ribbon with the Creekland Middle School mascot on it, and each teacher received a Positive Promotions bookmark to display in their classroom to remind students all year to stay away from drugs.

In the middle school division, the 2nd place winner of $200 is Williams Valley School District of Tower City, Pennsylvania. In 3rd place receiving a $100 prize is Morton Magnet Middle School of Omaha, Nebraska. The honorable mention award goes to La Cima Middle School in Tucson, Arizona, for their worthy contest entry.

In the elementary school division, the winner of the 1st place $300 grand prize is North Columbia Elementary School in Appling, Georgia. The teachers, staff and students at North Columbia “knocked it out of the park” with their Red Ribbon Week events. Activities throughout the week revolved around their theme of “The Best Me is Drug Free.” Like many other schools, North Columbia used Positive Promotions theme day stickers such as “Sock It to Drugs” to encourage students to participate by wearing the featured slogan of the day. They took that one step further by inviting students to bring in an unopened package of new socks to donate to the local Clothes Closet thrift store. Being drug free affects the whole community, and North Columbia Elementary School incorporated the local area in this notably charitable way. The school concluded their Red Ribbon Week with a community carnival, in which students were invited to play games like “Don’t Flush Your Life Down the Drain.” Students were given Positive Promotions “Say Boo to Drugs” and “Don’t Get Caught in the Web of Drugs” Halloween bags to remind them to continue to turn away from drugs and live a healthy, drug free life every day.

In the elementary school division, the 2nd place prize of $200 went to Leonard Elementary School from Troy, Michigan. Zack Motley Elementary School in Mesquite, Texas, came in 3rd place for a prize of $100 is. Honorable mention goes to the highly regarded contest entry from Osgood Elementary School, in North Platte, Nebraska, awarding them a $25 gift certificate for a future purchase with Positive Promotions.

Positive Promotions thanks all the schools and communities that entered the 2012 Red Ribbon Week Contest and encourages them to continue to promote a drug free life. Through education and awareness, Positive Promotions believes we can set the foundation for a bright and healthy future for today’s youth.
