Mickey Mouse Club's 60th Anniversary is Celebrated with Fond Memories from a Mouseketeer Favorite
Los Angeles, CA, July 30, 2015 --( Walt Disney’s classic children’s television series, the Mickey Mouse Club, is celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year having debuted on ABC-TV on October 3, 1955. It’s hard to believe that its been that long since kids across the country first met the Mouseketeers, a group of talented youngsters that wore their names across their chests and funny hats with ears that had never been seen before.

Who can forget Jimmie Dodd, the Mickey Mouse Club adult leader introducing the Mouseketeers with the famous line, “Mouseketeer roll call, count off now!” The talented pint-sized troupe, who became the idol of millions of children of that era, shouted out their names: “Sharon,” “Tommy,” “Darlene,” “Lonnie,” “Karen,” “Cubby,” “Bobby,” and of course, “Annette.” While these are the children most remembered from the popular series, there were in fact 39 original Mouseketeers during the course of the series four-season run. The show also remained a TV staple through decades of reruns that were aired around the world and ultimately entertained several generations of young people.

Mouseketeer Bobby Burgess, who was one of the most popular of the show’s stars and is best recalled by his toothy grin and dancing feet, has recently written his autobiography, “Ears & Bubbles – Dancing My Way from the Mickey Mouse Club to the Lawrence Welk Show.”

The book features myriad behind-the-scenes stories of life as a Mouseketeer as well as memories from his 21-year tenure as the resident dancer on The Lawrence Welk Show. Included are fun-filled tales of being a young teen idol of the day, the relationships among the Mouseketeers, his encounters with Walt Disney along with fond remembrances from the Welk Show as well. Bobby has often said, “Walt Disney and Lawrence Welk were like second fathers to me.” Welk followed up Bobby’s feelings with his own insightful quote, “I never had any trouble with Bobby because he was raised by Walt Disney.”

“I’ve had such a great life in the profession that I love…dancing,” said Burgess. “There have been so many adventures, great stories, showbiz gossip, and funny anecdotes that I’ve wanted to share with the people who grew up with me on the Mickey Mouse Club and the Welk Show and this book tells it all. Being able to have it available for the 60th Anniversary is very special.” Bobby’s family life, world travels, and entrepreneurial pursuits are also incorporated making for a very entertaining and nostalgic walk down memory lane.

Burgess, along with several of his fellow Mouseketeers, will be making a number of personal appearances this year in conjunction the Mickey Mouse Club’s 60th Anniversary. Upcoming they will be participating in a special Anniversary celebration at Disney’s D23 Expo being held at the Anaheim Convention Center on August 14-16 and in a special 60th commemorative program at The Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco on October 3 and 4.
