Boston, MA, August 26, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Micro-Donation Platform available in both iOS and Android stores

CharityCheckin, a micro-donation platform that uses smartphone checkins and social media to drive donations and awareness for Charities and foot-traffic and engagement for Brands, was selected as a finalist in the Social Impact category of SXSW Eco’s entrepreneurial pitch competition, the Startup Showcase taking place on October 5-7, 2015 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, TX.

The Startup Showcase, now in its fourth year, is a rapid-fire pitch competition spotlighting innovative early stage companies in the areas of Energy, Internet of Things + Software, Reuse + Recycling, Social Impact, Supply Chain + Product Innovation, Water and International Innovations. Finalists in these categories were selected out of a pool of hundreds of applicants from around the world and will compete at SXSW Eco in front of a live audience and panel of Judges from companies such as of Target, Shell GameChangers, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, AMD, GE Energy Ventures and the United Nations Foundation. In the past three years, participating companies have gone on to raise close to $40M in funding and acquire global brands as clients.

“We’re very excited to be chosen as a Finalist by SXSW Eco and to showcase CharityCheckin to such an impressive audience. Our mobile app makes it easy to support your personal cause year-round with a simple smartphone checkin,” said Marsh Sutherland, CEO/Founder of CharityCheckin. “Just as Amazon Smile rewards loyalty for its customers thru micro-donations, our platform does the same for brick & mortar brands where 92% of purchases are still made. Our goal is to create the world’s biggest and most personalized giving engine.”

“Our research shows that 2 out of 3 consumers purchased a product or service in 2014 because it supported a good cause. This is up 50% from 2009 and 300% from 1993” added Chuck Ball, CMO/Founder of CharityCheckin. “And Moms & Millennials, in particular, vote with their wallets, preferring 4-to-1 to choose their own charity vs. picking from a curated list. Our platform makes it easy for consumers to support the Brands that support them.”

The CharityCheckin smartphone platform enables:
1. Charities to gain awareness, engagement and year-round donations, dramatically improving both the reach and ROI of their existing marketing efforts.
2. Brands/Retailers to drive foot-traffic and brand affinity by supporting the causes that matter most to their consumers, thus personalizing and socializing the engagement.
3. Consumers to gain support for causes that are personal to them through a frictionless checkin and social media post process.

“In initial development, we paid a lot of attention to making sure the benefits were addressing specific and meaningful ‘pain points’ of all stakeholders, Charities, Brands and Consumers,” said Shawn Poindexter, CTO/Co-founder of CharityCheckin. “And we have an aggressive product blueprint that is designed to continue to drive significant value for each.”

“Each year, we are honored to spotlight t the startups offering the most innovative new solutions to our social and environmental challenges,” said Carolyn Harrold, SXSW Eco Head of Programming. “This year’s finalists are the most promising yet, and we look forward to the excitement they will bring to the conference and the change they will drive in the coming year.”
