Josef Kote – Harmony in White
Ocean Galleries kicks off Memorial Day weekend with guest artist, Josef Kote, who returns to Stone Harbor, NJ for the second consecutive year, bringing with him an all new collection of dramatic paintings, including many site-specific pieces created with the Jersey Shore collectors in mind. Kote began painting when he was very young and committed to becoming an artist when he was just 13-years-old. Classically trained in the traditional approach of the Masters, Kote traveled from his native Albania to Greece and then Toronto, before landing in New York in 2009. Today, Josef Kote is recognized for his work internationally and is best known for his distinctive style and technique, which blend classic academic and abstract elements, fused together with his signature drip effect, to create breathtaking artwork. Kote’s trademark style includes bold brushwork and sweeping strokes of vibrant color alongside monochromatic areas devoid of detail; the result of these unique techniques are paintings that enthrall the viewer with an incredible energy. The exhibit includes original paintings, as well as a selection of limited editions and sketches, many with nautical themes. “Josef Kote – Harmony in White” opens Friday, May 25 and runs through Monday, May 28. Meet Kote from 7:00 to 10:00 PM on Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27.

Modern Masters – featuring artwork by Picasso, Chagall, Dalí, and Miró
Ocean Galleries is proud to present Modern Masters, an exhibition of original art by the masters of the twentieth century: Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dalí, and Joan Miró. The collection will feature museum-quality art from each of these titans, with an array of media, subjects, and time periods. These artists were profound influencers of their time and continue to be seminal to the art being created today. Each artist carved-out their niche by bravely exploring new pictorial languages that had never been seen. Their work draws attention from every corner of the globe, as we continue to discover how their profound expressions have changed how we see the world. “Modern Masters” opens Friday, June 29 and runs through Sunday, July 8. Enjoy curatorial receptions from 7:00 to 10:00 PM on Friday, June 29, Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1.

The Art of Dr. Seuss - 20th Anniversary Celebration
This July, Ocean Galleries will share a rare and compelling selection of artwork from 20 years of The Art of Dr. Seuss Collection. Visitors can explore and acquire works from Dr. Seuss’s best-known children’s books, as well as The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss, a mind-expanding collection based on decades of artwork that Dr. Seuss created at night for his own personal pleasure. Perhaps the wackiest and most wonderful elements of the collection are Dr. Seuss’s three-dimensional “Unorthodox Taxidermy” sculptures with names like The Carbonic Walrus, The Two-Horned Drouberhannis, and the Goo-Goo-Eyed Tasmanian Wolghast, to name a few. Each of these Estate-Authorized limited editions has been adapted and reproduced from Theodor Seuss Geisel’s original drawings, paintings, or sculptures. Additionally, each work bears a posthumously printed or engraved Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel) signature, identifying the work as an authorized limited edition commissioned by the Dr. Seuss Estate. All sculptures and artwork will be available for acquisition. “The Art of Dr. Seuss – 20th Anniversary” opens Friday, July 20 and runs through Sunday, July 29. Enjoy curatorial receptions from 7:00 to 10:00 PM on Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21, and from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, July 22.

Kerry Hallam - Along the Coast
Kerry Hallam will visit Ocean Galleries this August for his first exhibit in Stone Harbor. The prolific and revered British Impressionist, who is as refreshing and spirited as his paintings, creates enticing images through bold palettes and captivating compositions. Dedicated to painting for more than 50 years, Hallam’s works spirit us away to experience an alluring atmosphere and the simple pleasures of life. His lifetime of travels has continually called him to the sea and his paintings are like a stage-setting ready to be explored. Enthusiasm for his art is fully evident in Kerry Hallam’s vivid windswept seascapes and timeless, sun-dappled village scenes. Noted for his power to evoke emotion, opulence of light and distinctive color harmonies, Hallam translates the ordinary moment into the magical. Through innumerable one-man exhibitions, Kerry Hallam has been honored by galleries around the world. His work has been featured in countless newspaper and magazine articles as well as in PBS television specials. “Kerry Hallam – Along the Coast” opens Friday, August 3 and runs through Monday, August 6. Meet Hallam from 7:00 to 10:00 PM on Friday, August 3 and Saturday, August 4.

Autumn de Forest – The Power of She
Autumn de Forest is a 16-year-old professional artist who has been painting since age five. Over her decade long career, Autumn’s extraordinary path has been distinguished by a myriad of achievements, including being the youngest artist in history to have a solo exhibition at a major American museum, The Butler Institute of American Art, and being honored at the Vatican for her profound influence on Arts and Culture. Autumn de Forest is the youngest artist ever to be appointed to the President's Committee for The Arts and Humanities, and was personally invited by First Lady Michelle Obama. Autumn’s creative prowess and journey is no fluke; but rather the continuation of a legacy that extends over 150 years in a family that includes recognized twentieth century American painters: Roy de Forest (1930–2007); Lockwood de Forest (1850–1932), California plein-air painter; and George de Forest Brush (1855–1941). Her works are collected around the world, and she has been confirmed as a “profound artistic prodigy” by a leading U.S. researcher on child prodigies, Dr. Joanne Ruthsatz, Psychology Professor at The Ohio State University. Equal to her creative endeavors as a fine artist is Autumn’s commitment to humanitarian causes and giving back. “Autumn de Forest – The Power of She” opens Friday, August 31 and runs through Monday, September 3. Meet de Forest from 6:00 to 10:00 PM on Friday, August 31, Saturday, September 1, and Sunday, September 2.

In addition to an extraordinary collection of artwork and custom-framing, Ocean Galleries also offers a variety of hand-made crafts from local, regional, and national artists in America, such as glass, pottery, jewelry, and furniture. All summer exhibitions take place at the Stone Harbor location of Ocean Galleries (9618 Third Avenue), which is open daily from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM daily through June 15, and then 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily through Labor Day weekend.
