Newark, NJ, March 31, 2020 --(PR.com)-- The outbreak of coronavirus or COVID-19 may be stressful for many families and individuals, both young and old. As the conversation revolves around how to not catch the virus and treatments, a looming crisis of mental well-being is surfacing.

"Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming, cause strong emotions, trigger feelings and create disharmony in the home. Those who are isolating themselves and have quarantined themselves, experience a new way to live," says Anna Pereira, founder of TheWellnessUniverse.com, a New Jersey-based company focused on total well-being, wellness resources and community of practitioners. "I am specifically concerned for the well-being of our nation and world as we move through this pandemic. This is just the beginning and will experience reverberations long after the virus is gone. We need to help heal ourselves though this with loving care," Ms. Pereira goes on to say.

Adding to the mix, unemployment, home-schooling, social distancing from those we love, and equally having our loved ones underfoot 24/7, creates a roller-coaster of emotions, tension and stress. This affects job performance, relationships, parenting, sleep and life-balance to name a few.

Mental wellness and emotional well-being are critical to address and pay attention to now. Some experts have described what many are feeling similar to the 7 stages of grief.

Helping yourself and the ones you love is key during this time. Implementing practices and exercises to help your mental well-being to stay in positive space is essential, and more challenging than ever. However, there are many things you can do to stay healthy, balanced and grounded during this extraordinary time we are being pushed to our limits.

Empowerment Strategist and Trauma Specialist, Jennifer Whitacre, Best Help resource in The Wellness Universe had this to say, "In terms of mental and emotional wellness, the COVID-19 situation concerns me. This is a slow burn for our nervous systems. People are experiencing anxiety and overwhelm outside of their normal tolerance without realizing it. I can't emphasize enough how important a daily practice of awareness, mindfulness, and self-care is right now. Individually, it's our best chance at coming through the COVID-19 pandemic without being traumatized by it. While we can't go outside, look within."

Moira Hutchison, Certified Hypnotherapist, Life Coach, Energy Healer, Best Help resource in The Wellness Universe, suggests three easy to do practices that will shift your stress level during social distancing and isolation, "I recommend a daily practice of writing in a journal to express what you are feeling. My second favorite is listening to music that you find soothing and calming. Lastly, getting outside even if it is just to take a few deep breaths."

According to the CDC website, here's what they recommend:

"Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting.

"Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate. Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep, and avoid alcohol and drugs.

"Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy.

"Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling.

"Call your healthcare provider if stress gets in the way of your daily activities for several days in a row."

Implementing mindfulness practices and fun activities into your daily routine are easy if you take the time to do so. You will find your sleep improved, relationships improved and your overall happiness increased.

Beyond COVID-19, taking care of your mental well-being from the suggestions above and wake up daily to a life you love. For more resources, check out WU Best Help.
