Houston, TX, October 07, 2026 --(PR.com)-- Lewis & Maese Announces October 14 Fine Art & Antiques Auction Featuring Miró, Basquiat, Rivera, Hopper, Kandinsky, Escher and More

Houston auction brings together important fine art, remarkable provenance, European and American antiques, period furnishings, decorative arts, jewelry and distinctive objects from private collections and estates.

Lewis & Maese Antiques & Auctions will present its Fine Art & Antiques Auction on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Central Time, offering collectors, designers and buyers an eclectic selection spanning fine art, antiques, period furnishings and decorative arts.

Among the highlights is Lot 301, a Joan Miró/Josep Royo collaboration, an unusual work combining tapestry, paint and attached materials and accompanied by a handwritten 1973 note concerning the commission.

According to documentation accompanying the lot, the work was commissioned by J. Fajardo of Mexico during the period in which Joan Miró was collaborating with master weaver Josep Royo on experimental textile works. The accompanying note discusses the commissioned tapestry and is particularly intriguing for another reason: Miró asks about Salvador Dalí, mentioning a project the two were expected to begin and his difficulty reaching the artist. The document also incorporates a colorful sketch and Miró signature.

The work reflects an important chapter in Miró's career, when his artistic experimentation moved beyond conventional painting and into textiles, assemblage and monumental tapestry.

Major Names in 20th-Century Art
The October 14 auction includes works associated with a remarkable group of internationally recognized artists, giving the sale particular appeal to collectors of modern and 20th-century art.

Among the featured names are Jean-Michel Basquiat, Joan Miró, Josep Royo, Diego Rivera, Edward Hopper, Wassily Kandinsky and M.C. Escher.

A Basquiat work is among the pieces being highlighted by Lewis & Maese ahead of the auction, while other offerings provide buyers an opportunity to explore works and material connected with some of the most influential artistic figures of the last century.

The auction also includes a 1917 work on vellum by Diego Rivera, an Edward Hopper drawing, works connected with Wassily Kandinsky, and an M.C. Escher work, adding further depth to the fine-art portion of the sale.

More Than a Fine Art Auction

While the headline works may attract serious art collectors, Lewis & Maese's October sale extends far beyond paintings and works on paper.

The catalog brings together an extensive collection of European and American antiques, period furniture, mirrors, chandeliers and lighting, rugs, porcelain, decorative arts, sculpture, objets d'art and distinctive furnishings suitable for both collectors and interior designers.

The diversity of the auction is intentional. A buyer might discover an important piece of art in one lot and, only a few lots later, encounter a Georgian bookcase, a marble-top commode, an ornate gilt mirror, a crystal chandelier or a statement desk suitable for a traditional library or study.

That variety has also inspired Lewis & Maese's “Inspirational Interior Design w/L&M” campaign, which shows buyers how individual auction pieces can be combined to create complete interiors rather than viewing antiques solely as isolated collectibles.

One recent design concept reimagines pieces from the October auction within an elegant traditional home library and office, combining period furniture, artwork, a Persian-style rug, crystal lighting and architectural furnishings to demonstrate how antiques can live comfortably in today's interiors.

Antiques for the Next Generation of Interiors
Lewis & Maese believes the continuing appeal of antiques lies not only in their history, but also in their ability to give contemporary homes a sense of individuality.

Unlike mass-produced furnishings, antique and vintage pieces often bring craftsmanship, materials, patina and character that develop over decades or even centuries. The October 14 auction in conjunction with Advantage.Bid offers buyers the opportunity to mix those qualities with contemporary interiors or create rooms built around traditional European and American design.

The catalog ranges from substantial statement pieces to smaller decorative objects, creating opportunities for established collectors as well as buyers who may be purchasing at auction for the first time.
