Algae Oil DHA Supplier Sponsors Satellite Omega-3 Health Symposium 2014
Chapel Hill, NC, May 21, 2014 --(PR.com)-- DHA omega-3 algae oil development and supply company, Source-Omega, announced today sponsorship of the May 22, 2014 omega-3 symposium in Toronto Canada. The company seeks to express support for omega-3 fatty acid best practices in public health and clinical nutrition.

The event features premier speakers and research presentations co-supported by the University of Guelph, the Dietitians of Canada (DC), the DHA/EPA Omega-3 Institute. The one day event is designated a Satellite Symposium of ISSFAL (International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids).

“The public health requires what nutritional scientists offer to our collective understanding of health through diet, an area largely abandoned in medical practices while people struggle with metabolic conditions. The leadership represented at the 2014 symposium serves as a think tank and is to include some of the finest minds in omega-3. The proper challenge to any mistaken medical agenda is professional science in clinical nutrition,” says Dr. Scott Doughman, PhD, CEO, CSO at Source-Omega.

Source-Omega’s sponsorship is intended to advocate for the importance of DHA, EPA and even ALA omega-3 intake during pregnancy, lactation, infancy and childhood. However, Dr Doughman suggests direct liver-lipoprotein structure function relationships are based on DHA as the single most abundant omega-3 in all cells and lipoproteins, which may underline all other clinical benefits observed with omega-3 supplementation in the diet.

In addition, the total omega-3 research science, particularly over the past five years, has forwarded specific new developments in the areas of primary prevention, optimal health and complementary care. Dr Doughman references one of the 2014 symposium organizers conducted fundamental clinical trials 20 years ago investigating the effects of algae oil in human metabolism.

“In fact, the original Inuit studies of 1971 offered the first direct evidence of the protective mechanisms of high level omega-3 intake. A healthy liver and fat transport system in the body is based on DHA omega-3 fatty acid synthesis into phospholipids, which mainly takes place in the liver. Thereafter, DHA omega-3 laden phospholipids are distributed to the rest of the body. Source-Omega is the only company to have submitted a liver-lipoprotein structure function claim to the FDA, from any source of omega-3. We claim ‘Dietary DHA in liver cells is differentially distributed into the phospholipid monolayer of very low density lipoprotein(s) (VLDL(s))’,” said Dr Doughman.
