First Live Video Streaming Over Inmarsat Global Xpress Passes with Flying Colors

First successful live video streaming transmission over Inmarsat's Global Xpress Ka-band satellite service with SD and HD video up to 4Mbps.

Veldhoven, Netherlands, December 05, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Network Innovations (NI) announces the first successful live video streaming transmission over Inmarsat’s Global Xpress (GX) Ka-band satellite service. The Network Innovations team along with Inmarsat working from the Network Innovations offices in Veldhoven, Netherlands were recently able to successfully stream the first SD and HD video up to 4Mbps using a Cobham Explorer 5075 GX flyaway terminal and complete the first VoIP calls. “As the first Value Added Reseller to conduct these tests on the Global Xpress service, we were extremely impressed with how easy Global Xpress was to set up - with a ‘press of a button’ lining up and acquiring the network, creating a seamless plug and play experience! Our POP and network connected seamlessly; performing beyond all expectations,” said Eric Verheylewegen, Vice President and General Manager, Network Innovations. Reaching an important milestone in the deployment of the new Inmarsat service, Network Innovations was able to perform voice, data, and video testing over two days. With the success of Thursday’s test and completion of further testing, Network Innovations has reached a crucial milestone as Inmarsat prepares for the launch of global GX services, which is on track for early in the second half of 2015.

Global Xpress is the world’s first global Ka-band mobile satellite system offering seamless connectivity for advanced data services on land, at sea and in the air, even in the world’s remotest regions. The satellites operate with a combination of fixed narrow spot beams that enable Inmarsat to deliver higher-speeds through more compact terminals, plus steerable beams so additional capacity can be directed in real-time where it is needed. The first satellite entered commercial service over Europe, Africa and Asia on 1 July 2014.
