In a bid to honour their service and contribution to the film industry and to the society through their work, the Africa Movie Academy Awards, popular as AMAA confers the most prestigious film awards.

The AMAA has recently notified the interested filmmakers to submit their films for over thirty categories for the upcoming Awards ceremony. The categories range from short films, to feature films, to documentaries and even animated movies. Though the initial deadline for all the submissions was 31st December 2016, the late entry deadline was kept on 25th January 2017. All of the nominations will be announced on 15th April 2017. The grand celebration of Africa Movie Academy Awards will take place on June 3, 2017. The attendees of this ceremony will include international several media representatives, Nigerian politicians, Hollywood celebrities, industrialists, celebrities from across Africa.

Right from 2005, when the event began, the main objective was to establish a platform for the meeting of filmmakers from Africa and beyond. The Africa Movie Academy Awards is not just the event, but its main objective is to unify Africa and help in opening wide networks and channels for the professionals and artistes.
This also helps in television and film media people to explore other media and work on amalgamating both of them. The event per se is resplendent with glitz, high-voltage performances by the top artistes from Africa and the stunning well-dressed actors on the red carpet. 2017 Jury President is Bernie Goldblat:
Nationality: Swiss. Born in 1970 in Stockholm, Berni Goldblat is a founding member of Cinomade with Daphne Serelle. An association based in Burkina Faso, whose objective is the creation and dissemination of advocacy tools, including film. As part of their activities with the association, they made thirteen films and numerous theater tours interactive debate in Africa. He also created "Les films du Djabadjah," a production company based in Burkina Faso. Berni Goldblat is also the author of a trilogy called "Micro à ta portée."
