San Antonio, TX, November 14, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Leader in Enterprise Cloud Version Control Innovates SVN, Bringing Long Awaited Features to Community and Customers

Assembla, the leading specialist in Apache™ Subversion, is introducing NextGen SVN™, a union of key investments to the software versioning system and leadership within the open source community. These updates act as continued validation of and momentum for Enterprise Cloud Version Control, modernized, cloud-based version control with a security and compliance wrap-around.

“Assembla has long been a champion for Subversion, but we’ve also been aware of the innovation lag in the SVN community. As the only viable enterprise version control system, we’ve taken a leadership role and are actively investing in the community and feature set,” said Paul Lynch, Assembla CEO. “We are more excited than ever about the traction in the SVN community, and the innovation happening on Subversion. We can't wait to see where the community takes it.”

NextGen SVN™ is a combination of new features and increased ecosystem investment with a focus on compliance and security.

Leading up the release of NextGen SVN™, Assembla has:

Released shelving for TortoiseSVN, the SVN Windows shell extension. The Tortoise client is the #1 SVN client in the world with more than 90,000 downloads per month. The download is available at www.assembla.com/subversion.

Developed the only SVN iOS Mobile application that will soon be available on the market. The application allows customers to manage asset sharing via locking, track repository changes and find root causes via blame.

Released shelving as part of the existing functionality of SVN and checkpointing will be available soon. Shelving and checkpointing have consistently been requested by the SVN community since 2009.

These investments mark an end to trade-offs between cloud and security. Assembla is inviting the SVN community to collaborate on the future of SVN and TortoiseSVN.

“There will always be a need for centralized version control. Pretty much every corporation in the world needs it, and tools like Subversion are probably best for that — because it offers actual ACLs in a way that competing technologies cannot. That’s the key advantage  - businesses don’t always want to expose all the code to all the employees.”  - Ben Collins-Sussman, Google R&D
