Local B Corp Provides $1000 Scholarships to Three College Students

Three university students who are aspiring educators have been awarded Galileo Learning’s first ever Spark Innovation Scholarship. Each winning student will receive $1000 to apply to their own educational endeavors. This year’s winners are Salina Ibrahim of Loyola University in Chicago, Thanh-Nguyen Nguyen of University of California, Davis and Mayrna Dababneh of Northwestern University.

The scholarship application was available to all undergraduate students interested in pursuing careers in education in California or Illinois, the states where Galileo operates its summer education programs. Students submitted essays of 500-750 words reflecting on why it is important to empower kids to become innovators; how they want to inspire kids to become innovators; or what led them to inspire kids to become innovators and how that inspiration impacts their current passion.

“We motivate young innovators to imagine and create by encouraging freedom to play, freedom to think, freedom to share new ideas, and freedom to make marvelous mistakes,” wrote Dababneh in her winning essay.

Galileo, which hires and trains nearly 1000 college students annually to work with it’s programs each summer, began the Spark Innovation Scholarship as a new way to support future educators who believe innovation must be at the forefront of education. Galileo plans to continue awarding Spark Innovation Scholarships in the fall of 2019 and encourages all college students to apply.

"Galileo believes that the primary purpose of education should be to develop young people into the innovators of tomorrow, and we're thrilled that these 3 scholarship winners are committed to finding new ways of doing this in the classroom," Glen Tripp, Founder and CEO of Galileo, said.
