Principled Technologies Study Compares MariaDB Performance Between Two Sets of Google Cloud Platform Configurations with Different Generations of Intel Processors

Durham, NC, January 06, 2022 --(PR.com)-- N2 standard VM instances on Google Cloud Platform are now available with both 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, and customers using these VMs may be interested to learn how they could benefit from selecting the newer processors. To gauge any difference in MariaDB performance between the configurations, Principled Technologies tested two sets of Google Cloud Platform instances in three different sizes: small, medium, and large. One set of N2 standard VM instances featured 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and the other set featured the latest 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors.

According to PT, “In our OLTP tests with MariaDB databases, N2 standard VM instances featuring 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors handled a higher rate of transactions per minute compared to N2 standard VM instances featuring 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. This remained true across three different sizes of VM instances for an up to 1.25x advantage.”
