Denver, CO, October 04, 2012 --(PR.com)-- On Sunday, October 7th, 2012, Denver business owner Marc DesRosiers will depart on an amazing journey. He will bike approximately 100 miles/day to Detroit, a distance of nearly 1,400 miles, in an effort to raise money for a cause tagged ‘Lake Orion Loves,’ which was started by friends from his hometown of Lake Orion, MI, to help generate financial support and a sense of community for three young kids fighting life threatening diseases.

Upon arrival in Detroit, Marc will join almost a dozen runners – all former Lake Orion residents that went to high school together – to tackle the Detroit Free Press, Talmer Bank, Detroit Marathon on October 21, 2012. Each one is raising money to benefit the Lake Orion Loves families.

Lake Orion Loves is a cause started by Sister Souls, Inc., a non-profit organization, founded by two Lake Orion graduates. It has quickly grown to include an entire community. A number of individuals have stepped forward, donating time, money and more to help these three extraordinary children and their families (who are all from Lake Orion, MI) in the throes of battling disease and in need of support, hope and prayer.

Max Milewski – Max was born 11 weeks premature with Downs Syndrome and Cataracts and at just two years old, was also diagnosed with leukemia.

Nicole Marie Burton – In 2008, at 4 years old, “Colie” was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. After treatment and chemo at the DMC: Children’s Hospital of Michigan, she ‘rang the bell.’ However, just two months later, her cancer returned in a more aggressive form. She has just finished another round of chemo, radiation therapy and also endured a complete immune system replacement and bone marrow transplant to save her life.

Faith Aisthorpe – Faith was diagnosed at 18 months old with Cystic Fibrosis. She has been admitted to the hospital several times for exacerbation, pancreas and kidney issues. She does 12 breathing treatments a day and has a permanent IV port in her chest for blood draws and to infuse antibiotics during her hospital visits.

Kim Casper and Stacy Blaine Brackon, founders of Sister Souls, Inc., have been inspired by the community’s commitment to embrace this effort.

“We’ve had an outpouring of support from friends, local businesses and even people we don’t know,” said Casper. “It’s just amazing to see how this cause has brought so many people together. Marc’s bike ride is just one of a number of fundraisers that have taken place in the past several months, and we are forever grateful for him and all the others that have stepped forward to make a difference.”

Marc, who began training in December is an avid cyclist and sports enthusiast. He currently resides in Gypsum with his wife and three children. He is the owner and founder of Big Delicious Catering in Vail. He is continuing to look for sponsors for his ride.

“I went to high school and graduated with all the moms, so the kids are all very dear to my heart,” said DesRosiers. “To see the fight they have to put up every single day is unreal. What I’m doing pales in comparison to what they have to deal with for the rest of their lives.”
