Coomacka Island Announces Book Tour to Begin in September
The Coomacka Island series, written by Don P. Hooper and illustrated by Darnel Degand, will be touring the United States and the Caribbean starting September 2007. The third book in the Coomacka Island series, Lenox Lizard and the Kukumacka Duppy, was released in June 2007.
"Lenox Lizard and the Kukumacka Duppy," written by Don P. Hooper and illustrated by Darnel Degand, made its debut appearance at the Horace E. Greene school in Brooklyn, NY this past June. Students and teachers also listened to Don P. Hooper's reading of "Anansi Jr. and the Mango Truck."
Parents, teachers and students alike have expressed their delight in reading these stories. The unique Afro-Caribbean perspective told through the mythical characters on Coomacka Island gives the series a global appeal. Parents and teachers have been thrilled by Coomacka Island's use of a Q&A and Glossary at the back of each book, giving children the opportunity to open dialogue with adults.
