AmpleHarvest.org and Gardener’s Supply Company Launch “Pledge-A-Veg” Photo Contest
Newfoundland, NJ, August 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- AmpleHarvest.org is pleased to announce in collaboration with Gardener’s Supply Company, the Pledge-A-Veg photo contest which will provide one talented photographer/gardener each month the opportunity to win a $300 gift certificate from Gardener’s Supply Company. The competition will continue monthly through the end of 2013.

September 1, 2013 will be the next opportunity to enter a photograph.

According to AmpleHarvest.org Founder and Executive Director Gary Oppenheimer, “AmpleHarvest.org is a nationwide program enabling millions of backyard gardeners to donate their excess garden produce to a nearby food pantry when they have harvested more than they can use. More than 6,300 food pantries across all 50 states are in the AmpleHarvest.org network – all in desperate need of freshly harvested locally grown food. Growers can take a photo of the food while it’s growing or when it is ready for donation to a nearby pantry and submit it to the photo contest. A public vote each month will determine the winning photograph that month.”

“It doesn’t have to be a lot of food nor does it have to be a professionally taken photograph,” noted Oppenheimer. “Be creative if you like or just show your harvest. What is important is that the extra food you grew did not go to waste and instead went to the needy in your community, and your photograph will help to encourage other gardeners across America to do the same.”

“We're so impressed with how AmpleHarvest.org has connected millions of gardeners to their local food pantry so they can donate extra produce from their backyard gardens," said Maree Gaetani, Director of Gardening Relations for Gardener's Supply. "Gary Oppenheimer and his team at AmpleHarvest.org provide a great solution to get all of us helping our neighbors in need and being part of a greater solution to hunger-relief."

Katelym Ambruster, the competitions first winner, reported that she planned on using this prize as part of the funds to support her Farm to Fork program. “I know I want a hula hoe to help with weeding plus some trellising would be great help too. Either way, the money will directly help the community gardens in my community.”

The competition is open to any gardeners in the United States. You and your friends can vote for your favorite photo daily through the end of the month. Additional information about the Pledge-A-Veg photo contest including submission guidelines plus Katelym’s winning entry can be found at www.AmpleHarvest.org/Pledge-A-Veg.
