50 Greatest Love Songs
Phoenix, AZ, February 17, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Internet radio station MartiniintheMorning.com invited listeners to vote for their favorite love songs, and then unveiled the voting in a countdown on Valentine’s Day. As the station counted down the 50 most romantic songs on Valentine’s Day, February 14th 2009, it became apparent that the voices may be different, but the songs remain the same.

This year’s countdown was different from years past. In last year’s 50, the station picked the top vote getter from each song making the top 50 and it represented that song. This year, because “Standards” were made to be interpreted and re-interpreted, with every artist adding his or her own personal touch, the station chose to use a different version of certain songs, in 3 editions of the top 50.

The Way You Look Tonight,” landed in the top spot in MartiniInTheMorning.com’s annual poll. The song received the most votes and was the winner of the 1936 Oscar for Best Original Song. While it was Fred Astaire’s version that won the Oscar, it was Steve Tyrell’s rendition from the 1991 motion picture Father of the Bride that garnered the most listener votes. In subsequent editions of the top 50 countdown, MartiniInTheMorning.com included at number one, Michael Buble’s 2003 rendition and Frank Sinatra’s from 1964. Frank Sinatra, Norah Jones and Ella Fitzgerald all sang “The Nearness of You.” Sinatra, Steve Lawrence, Eric Clapton and B.B. King performed “Come Rain or Come Shine,” in the 3 editions.

Artists included in the MartiniInTheMorning.com countdown range from Eric Clapton and B.B. King to Beyonce (At Last), Harry Nilsson (Nevertheless and It Had to Be You), to more predictable “Standards” performances from Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Louis Armstrong, Sinatra and Nat King Cole.

The 2009 50 Greatest Love Songs list is posted at MartiniInTheMorning.com. MartiniInTheMorning.com can be heard on the Internet, as well as on 1480 KPHX-AM radio, the first of a planned network of AM, FM and FM/HD Multicast channels to carry MartiniInTheMorning.com programming.
