College Students Connect with Gleedo: Free Software Blends Live Collaboration, Socializing, Studying and Security
Edgewater, NJ, October 07, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Like many students, Joao de Carvalho, a Freshman at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), has an incredibly busy semester. Tools, such as Gleedo™, help him to get everything done. “I use Gleedo to study with peers and view videos that teachers may require us to watch for classes,” said Joao.

Gleedo is the brain child of company Founder and CEO, Mehrdad Nadooshan. “All day, every day people share media with each other through social networking sites, Internet video sites and e-mail. We wanted to take that experience of sharing and make it live and highly interactive. Additionally we wanted to offer a convenient and secure way for people to easily share personal media with the people that matter to them,” said Nadooshan.

First launched as in July, Gleedo combines real-time Internet, live social collaboration (voice, chat) and secure media sharing into a single application. A free tool, Gleedo is available for download at www.gleedo.com.

Group Projects & Collaboration

For many students, Gleedo has proven to be a helpful tool both inside and outside the classroom. “Many professors now require students to complete a number of group projects during the semester. Given students’ demanding schedules, getting together can be difficult. Gleedo offers a way to instantly share information and collaborate from the comfort of your laptop,” said Tara Flynn Condon, VP of Marketing for Emerj, Inc. (maker of Gleedo). In addition to working together on Internet research, students use the Gleedo Media Locker™ feature to store class-related materials (such as videos and research papers) for easy group access. “Gleedo increases efficiency by eliminating time and place barriers. I can be in my room and attend group meetings,” added Rachit Tiwary, a Junior at Dickinson College and Gleedo user.

Shared Internet Browsing, Chat and Talk

Beyond the classroom, students use Gleedo to watch and share personal media and Internet content with friends. For example, rather than sending or posting links to favorite online videos, friends can watch them together. “We watch a lot of YouTube on Gleedo. Because we watch live together, we no longer have to sync the video,” said de Carvalho. Built for multi-tasking, Gleedo allows students to Liveshare™ and Livebrowse™ multiple Internet sites at the same time, so they can simultaneously watch their favorite videos, choose where to go for dinner and plan Spring Break. Built-in chat and talk features help to further enhance the communication.

Personal Content Sharing, Mobility & Security

In addition to Internet sharing, use Gleedo to securely store and easily share items from their media collections (including music and movies), as well as a wide variety of personal content (including videos, cell phone videos, music, documents and pictures). Students may upload content from their desktop or send it to their Gleedo Media Locker via e-mail or mobile phone. For example, a student can capture footage on his or her iPhone or similar mobile device and instantly share with friends. Sharing via Gleedo offers a safe and copyright-friendly alternative to P2P file sharing sites. Additionally, unlike social networking, video sharing and picture sharing sites, the Privateshare™ feature allows students to remain in complete control of their personal content, even when it is shared. Their friends can view the content, but they can not copy or forward it. Sharing via Gleedo prevents potentially sensitive materials from appearing in the public domain, giving students better control of their online privacy. Said Nadooshan, “Guarding one’s privacy is a good practice, as students will soon enter the professional world. Especially in a competitive job market, first impressions count. Sharing photos and videos via Gleedo can prevent ill-advised pictures and videos from showing up a hiring manager’s laptop.”

Gleedo in Academia

With its unique mix of collaboration, sharing and security, Gleedo lends itself well for use in the academic community. “Given the value Gleedo offers both inside and outside the classroom, it is no surprise that many of our early adopters have been students and professors,” added Nadooshan.
