Music for Humanity began in 2005. We are a volunteer 501c-3 charity. Our mission is simple: spread more music throughout the world because music builds the invisible roads and bridges that connect our hearts and souls.

"More Music Means a Better World for All of Us"

We spread more music via music scholarships to music majors at an accredited college or universtiy in the United States. To date we've given $207,000 in scholarships. Each year we accept scholarship applications online from February 15th through April 30th. A scholarship committee reviews the applications and we select five or six applicants to receive scholarships which range from $1000 to $10,000. We've been giving $20,000 in total for the last few years.

We also buy new instruments for local school districts in the Hudson Valley. To date we've bought a total of about $25,000 and over the last five years have given them to these school districts: Middletown, Beacon, Valley Central, Goshen, Chester, and Pine Bush.

We also give an annual "Music Teacher Appreciation Award" which is a $1000 grant to a music teacher at any accredited educational institution in the United States, from grammar school through college.

For the last seven years, we've also given an annual honorarium grant to a professional musician and/or music educator who has volunteered and supported MFH is some extra special way. These grants are given by recommendation by an MFH Board member and approved by the board. There is no application.

We are also running an annual Songwrited Contest for the past three years. The winner receives $1000 and the runner-up receives $500. We've had so many outstanding entries that we also give five or six "Honorable Mention" certificates.
